Preparing for the Technology Swap Out for current sophomores:
This spring, students in the sophomore class will "swap out" their current technology equipment (iPad, protective cover, USB cable & power supply) and receive new equipment on a new lease. This process described below will allow data and documents to be restored from the old device to the new device without disruption of class time, AP & semester exams and the student will have a device in hand at all times with all their information. All devices must be returned to the leasing company; the school can not sell older devices to students.
The swap out process has three parts:
- Come by the Technology Dept. w/iPad & Prep Information Form for a Prep Review.
- Return to the Technology Dept. during your arranged time to Swap Out the equipment.
Each student will need to complete a Prep Review preferably during the same week they receive the Prep Information Form. This meeting is individual and will take approximately 3-5 minutes to confirm the information on the form and to assess the condition of the current equipment. At this time, the student will continue using the old device while the technology department will use the Prep Information Form to prepare the new device. A date will be set for the student to complete the swap out in the technology offices. The Pre Review will confirm that each student has successfully completed a backup, as well as, an app specific backup for Notability. The hardware will be checked for damages and inform the student of any charges for repairs.
Each student will return to the technology offices , approximately 2-3 days later, to complete the swap out. The student will receive new equipment with the new device fully restored with all data and documents installed and return the old equipment and pay any additional fees necessary.
(Students should allow an average of 15 minutes for the swap out process)
Possible Additional Charges:
If the iPad being swapped out has any of the following, the cost to the student is $52.00:
- Scratched, Cracked or Shattered Display
- Damaged and/or Anything Stuck in the Charging and/or Audio Port
- Damaged or Stuck Buttons
- Corners and/or damages to the body of the device
If the USB Cable is damaged or lost, the cost to the student is $20.00
If the Power Supply is damaged or lost, the cost to the student is $20.00
Additional charges can be paid by Cash, Check (make payable to St. John's) or Credit Card (mc, visa, amex).
Freshmen do not swap out until the spring of their sophomore year and will keep their iPad over the summer.
Seniors and students transferring out will turn-in devices during semester exams (click for more information).
